Chapter One: Why Your Home Doesn’t Need to Be Finished

Why we feel pressure to “finish”
We often feel pressure to reach a point where every room is complete, every wall perfectly painted and every corner styled. But the homes that have meant the most to me have never been finished. They’ve evolved as life has evolved.
What Hearth & Willow believes
I’ve always believed that a home should do more than just look beautiful. It should make you breathe a little deeper when you walk through the door. It should work for the way you actually live. It should feel like you. That’s why I started Hearth & Willow.

The name Hearth & Willow reflects everything I believe
Hearth represents warmth, comfort and togetherness. It’s that feeling of curling up at the end of the day, of laughter around the table, of a home that welcomes you back no matter what kind of day you’ve had.
Willow speaks to nature, softness and resilience. It’s my favourite tree (shared with my daughter), and it reminds me that the best homes, like the natural world, are always growing, adapting and changing. It also hints at where I’d love to take Hearth & Willow in the future, bringing gardens and outdoor spaces into the story too.

So many people think good interior design is about following trends or creating picture-perfect rooms. I don’t see it that way. I believe every home already has untapped potential, and the most beautiful homes aren’t created overnight. They evolve alongside the people who live in them.
When we work together, I want to take you on a journey of discovering your home. We’ll explore how you use each space, what’s working, what isn’t, and, most importantly, how you want your home to make you feel. Whether that’s calm, cosy, energised, connected or simply more organised, every design decision starts with that feeling.
My role isn’t to tell you how your home should look. It’s to help you uncover what will work best for you and give you the confidence to make choices that feel right for your lifestyle. I want you to understand why something works, so long after our project has finished, you’ll feel confident creating a home that continues to grow with you.
For me, beautiful design has never been about perfection. It’s about belonging. It’s about creating rooms that support everyday life, where family gathers, memories are made and you genuinely enjoy being.
Nature influences so much of the way I design. I love natural materials, layered textures, gentle colours and thoughtful layouts that help life flow more easily. Every choice has a purpose. Beauty and function should never compete; they should work hand in hand.
Before becoming an interior designer, I was a primary school teacher, and I think that still shapes the way I work today. I love guiding people, asking questions, sharing ideas and helping them discover things for themselves. Design should feel collaborative, never intimidating.

I don’t want to create a home that looks like it belongs in a magazine.
I want to help you create a home that feels unmistakably yours.
A home that’s lived in, loved, and allowed to grow.
